Semiya Upma-Vermicelli Upma Recipe


Preparation of Plain Semiya Upma :

Upma is a famous South Indian breakfast dish. There are so many varieties of upma in that vermicelli upma is one type.  All these upma varieties are very quick to prepare and also very delicious. Fortified with vegetables they make a meal by itself. This is my favorite breakfast recipe. Here I used thin vermicelli. 


Lets see the preparation of this upma

Ingredients
Vermicelli - 2 cups
Onion - 1 (big size)
Ginger - 1 inch piece finely chopped
Green Chilly- 2 finely chopped
Curry Leaves - few & fresh
Oil - 3 tsp
Ghee - 2 tsp
Ground nuts - 5-6
Lemon - 1
Water - 4 cups
Salt as required

For Seasoning
Mustard - 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1 tsp
Urad dal - 1/4 tsp
Chanaa dal - 1/4 tsp
Hing - a pinch

Preparation
First slice onions thinly.

Dry roast vermicelli till golden brow. If Ur using ready made roasted semiya then U can skip this step.

Procedure
Heat oil in a kadai. Add cumin seeds after they splutters add mustard, chanaa, urad dal, ground nuts and hing. Saute till they turn into golden brown color.

Now add green chillies, curry leaves, ginger and onions. Cook for few minutes until onions become transparent.


Add water and salt needed.


When water starts boiling, add the roasted vermicelli.

Cook covered on low flame stirring occasionally till it is done. Then add ghee finely.


Sprinkle lemon juice. Plain vermicelli upma is ready. Serve it hot with any chutney or pickle.
